The Marxist Review Issue 2

The Marxist Review represents our attempt to respond to the big questions posed by contemporary capitalism and will seek to develop a strand of Marxist thought that remains rooted in working-class struggle.

In our first article, Terina Hine explores the European drive to expand its war machine, placing it in the context of the end of the ‘unipolar world’. Our second article by Zahid Rahman looks at the joint US-Israeli war on Iran. The article explores what the war tells us about the state of US power and the pressures it is bringing to bear on US-Israeli relations, and the weaknesses it exposes in US imperialism. Our third piece, by John Clarke, then delves deeper into US decline, the rise of ‘gangster imperialism’ and assesses Trump as one of the ‘morbid symptoms’ of a declining US.

In our fourth piece, Des Freedman provides a detailed analysis of media silence and complicity over the genocide in Gaza. Dave Randall then looks at Palestine and the contemporary music industry, an industry that he writes, has ‘always attracted sharks, liggers, crooks, cronies and gangsters.’ Finally, our sixth article in this issue is an extract from Lindsey German’s forthcoming book, Breaking Point: Women’s Liberation in the Twenty-First Century, looking at (and defending) the work of Friedrich Engels.
